The NTCF Transport group believe the Walking and Cycling strategy from the TDC is ground-breaking for NZ. While similar bold initiatives have been undertaken by other city councils (eg Taranaki Council) this is, to our knowledge, the first region-wide comprehensive strategy to action the first step of necessary transport changes for a significant reduction of GHG emissions from the transport sector. The NTCF transport group has encouraged the NTCF to fully endorse this submission and while there is still fine tuning that would help in GHG reductions from transport, believe that this submission could be a trend setter for all NZ and in particular other Councils in this region that have not been bold enough to move as quickly on such a comprehensive climate reduction strategy. In parallel, the transport Group of the NTCF has made its own individual submission pointing out aspects that he would like to see improved.
