NZ Parliament’s Justice Committee is holding a wide ranging inquiry into the 2023 General Election. It has a particular focus on Election operations, Electoral law, and long-term trends in elections.
A fair and just electoral system is a pivotal platform for achieving the NTCF Charter and Goals. In particular, Goal 3 calls for ‘responding to climate change in a way that recognises the rights of all living organisms, including people, and provides for a just, equitable and resilient society’.
Aspects of the election process were ‘shambolic’, differentially impacting Māori. Party funding is problematic. Such impediments will make the climate transition less be fair and just.
