As you may know, Nelson City Council has published its Climate Strategy and Action Plan.

We were very pleased that it contains the target emissions reduction figure that the Forum Targets Group had calculated as one of its two choices of target. It contains many other admirable features, such as appropriate attention to iwi climate plans.

It deserves a thoughtful response from the Forum. In particular the NCC climate team are eager for community feedback on community plans for emissions reduction and adaptation to place alongside actions that the council plans.

We are also eager to counter some arguments that came up in council discussions, and that may be raised in future to weaken the plan.

The Climate Forum plans to have an online session to generate material for a well-considered submission on this plan. This will be on Tuesday, April 1^st, 7.30-9pm.

The Forum’s Submissions Group will take the material generated by this session and put together a submission to present our ideas to the council.
