Repair with Flair Student Fashion Show
May 25 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
FreeJoin us to celebrate retro and restyled fashion creations made by local students! Every year heaps of clothing goes to landfill and by recycling and refashioning old items we can reduce our impact on the environment while having fun.
Starting from noon there will be short talks and interactive workshops by local community groups who focus on reducing, reusing and repurposing clothing waste. Then at 1pm the ‘Repair with Flair’ fashion show begins. Prizes will be given for the most creative, best background story, and best handywork. Students who are keen to enter can register here.
Entry to the event is free, and light refreshments will be available for a small charge. The event is being organised by the Waimea and Nelson Soroptimists clubs and is a follow-on from the 2023 ‘Clothing Revolution’ event.
By preventing clothing to landfill we are helping to reduce carbon emissions. Fashion (mostly women’s clothing) is responsible for at least 2-8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
